Science News named a finalist for five Folio awards

Science News is a finalist in five categories for the 2015 Eddie & Ozzie Awards, which honor editorial and design excellence in the print and digital magazine industry. The awards will be at a luncheon in New York City on October 19.

The Eddies recognize editorial excellence; the Ozzies recognize excellence in magazine design.

The is a finalist for the best . Written by neuroscience writer Laura Sanders and occasional guest writers, Growth Curve delves into the science of development and, as the tagline says, 鈥渢he inexact science of parenting.鈥

Two Science News articles are finalists for an Eddie Award in the category. 鈥溾 is an imagined first-person account of the rover Curiosity鈥檚 first two and a half years on Mars, based on the actual observations and milestones the rover encountered. And 鈥溾 examines how advances in robotics are improving robots鈥 abilities to perform in disaster zones.

The feature 鈥溾 brought nominations for two Ozzie Awards: One for , and another for (). The story delves into NASA鈥檚 plan to capture an asteroid and put it in the moon鈥檚 orbit for study as a way to learn how to prepare for a mission to Mars.
