The Charter School of Wilmington (Wilmington, Delaware)

鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to be at an in-person science competition. I鈥檝e never been at an in-person science fair before because of COVID, so it鈥檚 a very exciting and new experience,鈥 said Claire. 鈥淢y favorite part of the week so far has been meeting all the finalists and making friends.鈥 And what advice does Claire have for future Regeneron STS applicants? 鈥淜eep doing your research, continue with your science passions and put a lot of time into your application and essays. Do what you love doing.鈥

Parkland High School (Allentown, Pennsylvania)

鈥淚t鈥檚 just so exciting to meet judges and talk about what I鈥檓 passionate about, especially after two years of virtual judging,鈥 explains Victor. 鈥淢y favorite part of Finals Week so far has been project judging; it鈥檚 really interesting to hear all the questions the judges ask and how much they want to learn about us.鈥 And when it comes to filling out the STS application Victor has some recommendations: 鈥淚 would say start early because it鈥檚 a really long application 鈥 mine came out to around 90 pages. Twenty of them are your research paper, but there are lots and lots of questions.鈥

Palisades Charter High School (Pacific Palisades, California)

鈥淚 really like the down time during Finals Week and doing random things, it鈥檚 fun,鈥 Theo shared. 鈥淚t feels refreshing to be back at an in-person competition; it鈥檚 better than Zoom.鈥 His advice for the next generation of STS applicants? 鈥淔or future STS applicants, the most important thing would probably be to find a project you鈥檙e actually interested in, one that can sustain your interest through your project.鈥

Coral Reef Senior High School (Miami, Florida)

鈥淚t feels good to be back. I think something that was lacking last year was that you couldn鈥檛 really communicate with other people, other competitors and so this year I鈥檓 thankful we were all able to come together and meet in D.C.,鈥 said Krystal. 鈥淚t鈥檚 much more interactive being able to speak with the judges one-on-one. Also, getting together with the other finalists has been an enriching experience.鈥 Her advice when it comes to applying for STS? 鈥淎pplicants shouldn鈥檛 be too worried about competition; I know I was worried I would feel Impostor Syndrome, but you鈥檒l really find that STS is what you make of it, and you鈥檒l make plenty of friends and have many unique experiences.鈥

Brentwood High School (Ross Center, Brentwood, New York)

鈥淚t feels so relieving to be in person,鈥 Roberto shared. 鈥淚t feels amazing to talk to a person in real life and explain my project using my presentation board.鈥 Roberto said he loved visiting Washington D.C. and wants future applicants to 鈥渆njoy their time at the competition and make as many friends as possible.鈥 He says it was the experience that was the most rewarding part of the competition. 鈥淒on鈥檛 focus too much on judging, just focus on the interactions with the other 39 finalists.鈥

Arcadia High School (Arcadia, California)

鈥淏eing back in person feels more stressful but also more personable and exciting,鈥 said Ethan. 鈥淢y favorite part of Finals Week so far has been the food.鈥 Ethan鈥檚 advice for people applying to STS? 鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to try something that鈥檚 new and might seem really hard. Even if you don鈥檛 think you can do it, just don鈥檛 be afraid.鈥
